Give a hand to the Rural Chinese Children
Prof. Fei-Fei Li at UIUC is an advisor of an overseas volunteer organization for helping education in rural China (Rural China Education Foundation (RCEF)).
As the holiday season draws near us, RCEF is hoping to involve more young Chinese students to help their efforts financially or/and through volunteering to help educations in rural China.
If you are interested in helping rural children in China through education, there are now several opportunities. The Rural China Education Foundation (RCEF) is an international nonprofit organization of young Chinese people who want to offer rural children more opportunities in life by improving the quality of their education.
You may wonder: how is RCEF different from other organizations? Here is how:
Most organizations focus on material aspects of rural education, such as donating tuition fees, school buildings, and equipment. RCEF focuses on the contents and methods of teaching, and on strengthening human resources, such as rural teachers, parents, and members of the local community. RCEF wants to make rural education meaningful to students' lives. We believe that education should equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make positive change in their environments, whether they advance in school or find job. RCEF supports social volunteerism within China as a key tool to bridging the rural-urban resources gap and realizing sustainable rural development. We work together with socially minded Chinese university volunteers.
As the holiday season draws near us, RCEF hopes that you could take a moment to think about how you could help children in rural China by participating in RCEF. There are two ways you could help:
Volunteering: You can apply to be a rural volunteer teacher in July-Aug 2006. The program takes 3 weeks and includes training and team field work as rural teachers. In 2005, the program was very meaningful for both the rural children and the volunteers.
Donating: We are looking for donations, large and small, to help us realize our plans for structural impact through a corps of educational volunteers (mostly Chinese university students) and teacher trainers. You can send your check to Alex Wong, Treasurer; Rural China Education Foundation; 579 Serra Mall; Stanford, CA 94305.
If you want to know more, check out our website at www.ruralchina.org. We always welcome ideas, feedback, and active involvement! You can email us or call us. Together we can make life better for rural children!

Please Help Those Kids!!

Dear Friend:

Do you know that over four million school-age children are
deprived of education in China due to poverty? Do you know
that in particularly poor areas of China, 15% of children have
no access to education? Despite of the government’s recent
subsidy policy to promote free 9-year education,
many poor regions cannot yet come up with the budget to
implement the policy. Based on the feedback from our local
coordinators and inspectors, the new subsidy policy had only
been implemented in a few of our support sites.

The children should not be victims of poverty. They should
not be excluded from classrooms while waiting for a policy’s
implementation. If you would like to help those children,
please kindly consider doing so through Overseas China
Education Foundation (OCEF), a non-profit, non-governmental,
non-religious, all-volunteer organization with 13 years
of track record of helping under-privileged children in rural
China.

Since 1992, OCEF has distributed over 10,000 financial aid
packages to impoverished children in China, donated over
62,000 books to 77 rural schools, and rebuilt/repaired 6 rural
school. Collection of student information and delivery of
financial aid are carried out 100% by our volunteers, and we
do not go through government agency at any level. We
guarantee that your donation will go to only the most needy
children.

This year, OCEF has approved 2250 financial aid applications
from rural children who are in imminent danger of dropping out
of school unless receiving sponsorship starting the next year.
If you wish to learn more about the hardships facing these
children, I invite you to read our student stories at

http://www.ocef.org/student-stories.html

http://www.ocef.org/photo/online

If you are interested in helping one or more of them, I
sincerely encourage you to make donation through OCEF and/or
become our volunteer by visiting our web site at www.ocef.org.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or email ocef@ocef.org if
you have any questions! We appreciate your kindness.

CSSA 排球俱乐部招新启事

The new semester is just around the corner. We, Chinese Volleyball Club, would like to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to recruit volleyball players to “join” us. Well, “join” here means nothing like “r egistration” but your presence during our volleyball time :-).

Anyone is welcomed to come and play during our regular volleyball time, as long as you like playing volleyball; it doesn’t matter however bad you think your play is, wherever you are from, and whether you are new here or not.

We are developing a system helping those who don’t have much vb experience. And we are proud that quite a few “rookies” have improved enormously their skills, together with more fun of play.

As for veterans, we have all kinds of tournaments to participate in: Chicago Tournament held at U of Chicago Aug. 20th; American Chinese Volleyball Tournament held in New Jersey this year on Sept. 4th, where you can see quite a few former Chinese national team players; annual St. Louis Chinese Volleyball Tournament in late October or early November; to name just a few.

Last but not least important, our club is like a family, making friends, helping each other, holding parties from time to time, etc. I bet you will have a wonderful experience being a part of our club and have tons of fun during your stay at U of I, which I have to admit, is a little bit boring :-)

The regular volleyball time and location is as follows:
Wed. 6-8pm (Summer); 7-9pm (Fall and Spring)
Sat. 3-7pm
Location: IMPE GYM3. (on the right-hand side once you check in at impe)
Contact info: (especially if u need a ride)
mingfang@uiuc.edu

Come and play hard for fun!!!
Wish everyone a wonderful and successful Fall Semester, 2005!

Though the aim of playing volleyball on this team is for fun and exercise, Dragon Team has participated a few campus tournaments and has won a couple of titles.
There is no 最低开户额。
